College Advisory Program

I WANT TO PLAY IN COLLEGE…WHERE DO I BEGIN?

Deciding which college to attend is a challenge in and of itself for a high school student. What to study, Where to study - do I want to go to a small, private school or a large university? Do I want to go far away from home or do I prefer to stay closer to home? Add the component of being a student athlete to the equation and you’ve got a lot of moving parts to sort through when making your decision.

Sporting Iowa Academy places a lot of emphasis on this particular step in the player pathway. We feel that our players have worked too hard to not make this a priority, and personally invest in this as  a crucial step for those who desire to play at the collegiate level.

SO WHAT IS THE COLLEGE ADVISORY PROGRAM?

The College Advisory Program offers a comprehensive support system that will help guide the prospective student athlete and the parents through the process of finding the right college for each individual.

The College Recruiting Education Seminars will provide information on many different topics to help prepare players for playing at the next level. Topics will include Resume Building, Cover Letting Writing, Identifying Schools, Recruiting Timelines, NCAA Eligibility Standards, SAT Vs. ACT Testing, NCAA Clearinghouse, Contacting Coaches, Communication with Coaches, Unofficial and Official Visits, Scholarships (both Athletic and Academic) and other questions that parents and student-athletes may have regarding the entire recruiting process. This service is available to all 15U to 19U Select Boys and Girls Teams. It is highly encouraged that your daughter/son attends these sessions if they are interested in playing soccer in college.

As a Sporting Iowa Academy player, you will have access to dedicated and knowledgeable staff members to assist in this process.  Our College Advisory Coaches have both played and coached at the college-level allowing them to bring first-hand experience to the process.

The Sporting Iowa Academy already has a successful history of players playing at the college level and Technical Director Paul Dayrell has a proud history in Iowa City of helping players make the journey into college soccer.  Whether you are an excellent student as well as a top-level player or any combination of academic and athletic abilities, we want to provide the right fit for you as you transition into the college environment.

DON’T WAIT; IT'S NEVER TOO EARLY TO START AND NOT TOO LATE TO LOOK

We want our players to be prepared and their college decision to be smooth and as stress free as possible. It’s not uncommon for players to wait until their junior or senior year of high school to begin this process. At Sporting Iowa, we begin working with our players during their freshman year of high school. Being prepared to play at the collegiate level requires many things, among them a strong academic profile. By beginning this process early in high school, we not only work with the student athlete to understand the importance of good grades, we begin to set expectations for the next 3 years to develop a prepared and recruitable collegiate player.
